As the NFT debate continues to heat up, more and more fashion brands, artists and practitioners in related fields are jumping on board the fast-moving train of emerging technology. But the truth is that behind NFTs is an environmental crisis that people don't realise. NFTs are traded via Ethereum, and the hosts consume a lot of power and energy to keep them running. Through the current boom in NFTs and their massive energy consumption, we ponder a system that can achieve the goal of the cleanest NFTs. In addition, we guide the audience to consider how the digital world and the real world can live together harmoniously.
This project was inspired by Borges' short story 'The Ring of Ruins'. Inspired by him, we have chosen the shape of a ring as the look of our main system. Wearing a VR headset, the viewer can experience the inner workings of this 'environmental' system and ultimately witness the infinite illusion of what Borges called the 'ring-shaped ruin'.
The project is a 360-degree 3D video that viewers can watch on a video playback platform, as well as an immersive experience using a VR headset. After the viewer enters the VR world, a prompt tells them that they are about to enter the Cir-clean world (the best solution to create NFT without causing high energy consumption environmental pollution) and experience the new NFT operating system. The viewer is about to embark on a journey through this virtual world, experiencing NFT from minting to sale in this new pollution-free system. The viewer will enter five different scenarios: the Cir-clean main system, the data space, the system crash, the invisible host world and finally the white space. Through the immersive experience created in the virtual world we hope to make people aware of the environmental issues posed by NFTs.
